Waiting by the Tree 守株待兔

从前有一个农夫,在田里干活。
cóngqián yǒu yí ge nóngfū, zài tián lǐ gànhuó.
Once there was a farmer who worked in his field.
一天,一只兔子撞在树上,死了。
yì tiān, yì zhī tùzi zhuàng zài shù shàng, sǐ le.
One day a rabbit ran into a tree and died.
农夫很高兴,从此不再干活,只等兔子。
nóngfū hěn gāoxìng, cóng cǐ bú zài gànhuó, zhǐ děng tùzi.
The farmer was delighted; from then on he stopped working and only waited for rabbits.
可是再也没有兔子来,田也荒了。
kěshì zài yě méiyǒu tùzi lái, tián yě huāng le.
But no more rabbits came, and the field went to waste.
